Handy Shell 2.0 In Beta. Good Try Epocware, But I Will Pass This One

1- Handy Shell is a replacement front panel for S60 Standby screen. It is developed by Symbian veteran Epocware.

2. In My-Symbian.Com forum, Epocware announced a new beta version for Handy Shell 2.0 which doesnt add many new functions except for the 3D-Cube animation used when changing from one window to another.

3. I tried it for 5 minutes and removed it right away. It’s too slow… Changed the animation speed but it didnt help.

4. It might be nice for some people but certainly not for me. At the current stage, Symbian smartphones aren’t meant to use heavy graphical applications.

5. The changes in Handy Shell are minor, like the 3D cube animation, and also the addition of a photo viewing application integrated with the Shell.

6. I would prefer they do something to improve the application especially providing more plugins. The weather plugin is cool but it would be better if they can add social networking status update plugin or a simple RAM / memory pane on the front screen. Small things like that. You know…

7. What do you think of the new Handy Shell 2.0 beta? Are you excited? Why?

  • i tried out the handy shell 2.0..and i'd agree with you on the availability of plugins. I would like to see it handle other applications as a widget on the homescreen. Also the Calendar plugin is of not much use then active standby does a better job than the handy shell. I would also have loved to see the music player appear on the shell.
